Glass House Garden
Capistrano Beach, California
The acquisition of a Noguchi sculpture provided the impetus to create a new garden in the courtyard of a dramatic beach house designed by Rob Wellington Quigley. The garden uses materials from the house, stone, concrete and wood, to create a simple, meditative space that focuses on the sculpture. Scrims of timber bamboo and groupings of tree ferns frame the courtyard. Blocks of groundcovers float in a carpet of beach pebbles, providing textural interest and seasonal color in the garden.
