PALM SPRINGS, CA
This mid-century home, located in Palm Springs’ Southridge community and afforded stunning views of Coachella Valley, serves as a winter retreat and showcase for the owner’s art and furniture collection. In the driveway, a center planter with a tall palm tree was removed to provide ease of vehicular access, and exposed aggregate concrete replaced the old asphalt surface. A resilient palette of desert plants was carefully selected to augment and complement existing Rhus, Palm and Olive trees, and to thrive in the region’s extreme weather and the site’s challenging, rocky soil. Their sculptural forms offer visual interest, and their dramatic colors provide a stunning springtime display. This project was a collaboration with Chicago’s von Weise Associates, who selected all furnishings and fabrics in the home. The garden and home were part of Modernism Week’s Signature Home Tour in 2018.
